Homemade All-Natural Dusting Spray
Are you tired of spending $3-4 for a can of dusting spray? I know the name-brand choices in the store are almost $5; that is PURE insanity. You can make an all-natural dusting spray with only three ingredients that is effective and uses ingredients I’m sure you have at home.
Switching to homemade, all-natural cleaners takes time, but once you have a few of these ingredients on hand, you’ll be surprised at how many products you can make. Swapping out the toxin-filled products for natural ones will take time, and a dusting spray is a fantastic place to get started.

What You Need to Make an All-Natural Dusting Spray
Besides gathering the ingredients, the only thing I purchased when I started making my own cleaning products was glass bottles. If you use essential oils, chances are you have them on hand already, but if not, they’re easy to order!
- Glass Spray Bottles: I prefer using glass 16-ounce spray bottles. I’m hesitant to use plastic, but you’re free to do so! In my opinion, reusing plastic bottles that were once used as a cleaning product is difficult; they retain some residue.
- White Vinegar: I use white vinegar for so many homemade cleaning products. It is great for removing sticky buildup, getting rid of scum, removing grease, and more. However, if you dislike the smell of vinegar, try adding less OR more essential oils.
- Olive Oil: You need some sort of oil that will give the pretty gleam back to wood surfaces. If you don’t have olive oil, fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil work well. Substitute them equally.
- Distilled Water: It is safest to use distilled water, as it has a longer shelf life. If you don’t have distilled water, you can make your own by boiling water and letting it cool.
- Essential Oils: Technically, essential oils ARE optional; they offer cleansing and purifying properties, but most people use them in a dusting spray for the pleasant scent they leave behind. It’s up to you what scent to use. Lemon is the “classic” dusting spray scent, but wild orange is a great substitute instead. You could try lime as well, OR go a bit crazy and use lavender. Citrus essential oils are ideal but not required.
How to Make Homemade Dusting Spray
Making an all-natural dusting spray only takes a few steps and minutes to complete. It will be ready before you know it!
You’ll need:
- 1 cup distilled water
- 1/8 cup white vinegar
- 2 TBSP olive oil
- 10-15 drops of essential oils (orange, lemon, etc)
The first step is to measure your water. I put all of my ingredients into a glass measuring cup and pour from there, but you can do this however you want. Then, add vinegar and olive oil to the water.
Then, it’s time to put in the essential oils. I suggest 10-15 drops of your preferred citrus essential oil, such as sweet orange or lemon. After adding all ingredients to the spray bottle, shake well to combine.
The olive oil will settle on top of the water as it sits; this is normal. Be sure to shake it each time you use it to spread the oil throughout the water!
