DIY Holiday Room Sprays You Can Make Yourself

Ditching chemical-laden room sprays is difficult; we all love a room that smells delicious. Over the last two years, I’ve made an effort to ditch as many chemicals as possible. Making DIY holiday room sprays is cost-effective while smelling like Christmas in an all-natural way.

I love the smells of the holidays. Christmas trees. Candy canes. Cinnamon and clove. Gingerbread cookies.

A DIY holiday room spray with essential oils will make your home FEEL like the holidays. You know exactly what I mean!

You only need three ingredients: water, witch hazel, and essential oils. If you’ve avoided making room sprays, it’s time to give it a whirl. I can’t believe I’ve been paying so much money for sprays at the store, and it only takes 5 minutes to make two bottles!

DIY Holiday Room Sprays: Ingredients & Supplies

To make a homemade room spray, you need these items:

• Amber Glass Spray Bottles: I use 2 oz bottles, so that is what I used for these instructions, but you can use any size that you prefer. You’ll only need to adapt the amount of witch hazel (or alcohol) and essential oils.
  
• Small Funnel: If your measuring cup doesn’t have a pouring spout, I suggest using a small funnel. It makes pouring in the ingredients easier. However, if you don’t have one, you can still figure it out!
  
• Witch Hazel: Some prefer to use a grain alcohol, such as a high-proof vodka, but I had witch hazel on hand for this batch. This acts as a preservative and helps dissolve the essential oils. Feel free to try both options to see what you prefer!
  
• Distilled Water: It is preferable to use distilled water because it avoids any impurities found in tap water. Most grocery stores sell distilled water between $1-2 a gallon.
  
• Essential Oils: This is where you get to be the most creative. For a 2-oz bottle, I used between 10-15 drops. You’ll need to double that for a 4-oz bottle, etc. Here are a few you may consider on hand. I also use these for homemade candles.
  • Pine Needle
  • Cedarwood
  • Peppermint
  • Vanilla
  • Clove
  • Cinnamom Bark
  • Sweet Orange

How to Make Holiday Room Sprays

Grab all of the items needed to make room sprays together. Add 1/2 tsp of witch hazel (or alcohol) to each amber bottle.

Fill the bottles with distilled water, leaving space at the top to add the essential oils. Put the essential oil drops into the bottles. Shake well and use the spray! If you want a stronger scent, use more essential oils.

Remember, this drop amount is for a 2-oz bottle. You’ll need to increase the number of essential oil drops you use for the holiday room sprays.

• 5 drops pine needle
• 5 drops cedarwood
• 3 drops cinnamon

Christmas Comfort & Joy

• 4 drops sweet orange
• 4 drops cinnamon
• 4 drops pine
• 2 drops clove

Candy Cane Lane

• 6-8 drops peppermint
• 4-6 drops vanilla

Jolly Saint Nick

• 4 drops frankincense
• 4 drops sweet orange
• 2 drops cinnamon
• 2 drops vanilla

Cinnamon & Spice

• 5 drops cinnamon
• 5 drops clove
• 3 drops sweet Orange
